Re: is it ok to be positive?
I'm not expecting this season to be amazing but I am excited about seeing some of the talented players we have brought in play. I think with a new manager and style of play, so many new signings and unknowns in the Premier League there will be a period of learning and adapting, some disappointments and hopefully also some good victories.

I think we'll have a good chance of being comfortably mid-table and possibly more. After the battle and ugly football we've had to play, I think it will be refreshing.

You said this before. How does one target a positive difference? Aren't you just say you want to win games and score goals because that it what we did under Bilic.

However, in that case we were a great counter-attacking team who blew out some teams we had been blown out by before.(+5 vs Liverpool that year vs -6 last year.) Still we kept one clean sheet from the beginning of March on that year and we see where it eventually led.

Our manager's at least stated philosophy is that no matter the opposition he wants to attack them. I think we might be on the wrong end of some drubbings before we gel and players settle and that will kill our goal difference. But if it leads to a long term better team and club, I am in.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
Let’s aim for a positive goal difference over the season. Done only once so far, the Bilic first season, it guarantees a good top half table finish.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
remember when Sven took over at Man City? they signed Elano, Petrov, Giovanni and Bianchi then taught us a lesson first game of the season.
i'm hoping that is us.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
Statistics say a few of these players will not work out. But we are trying something obviously new and I think refreshing.

A month ago I said we will need patience, and I echo that and what has been said.

We got spoiled (initially) because our last big change worked amazingly the first season but even by the end you could see the defensive wheels coming off.

I will take a poorer start if it means actual measured progress,in the long run and we should be fun to walk either way.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
we have lots of new players, a new manager, new style of play and a pretty tough start.

if we don't have a great start lets not over react.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
Well it's about time that the miserable pessimistic B's on here stopped moaning about anything & everything! I have always been positive and what's not to be positive about for this season? We have a great Manager, 7+ new players who are all capable of being first team regulars and finally may actually be capable of reaching "the next level" (yes that's upwards!). Of course, we are not going to do a Leicester and win the league, but I do expect to be looking upwards, not down. Having said all that, should we lose at Liverpool, I fully expect to see lots of negative comments on here & maybe someone even claiming that we will be relegated!

Re: is it ok to be positive?
Be positive but also realistic. New managerial team, many new players etc. So this group have to knit together and achieving full effectiveness will not be an instant but a gradual process. We do look fitter and motivated much more than under the Bilic lassais faire regime so I at least expect us to be competitive from the off.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
Great question.
If you're really positive you'll live like a King.
You can enjoy every second infinitely more than if you were miserable.
However, the fall if we fail might feel worse.
Or, even if we're average it might feel less than your positivity expected.
So
Feel super positive till the season starts.
The day before, get super negative and expect to get thrashed 6-4.
Get super positive again.
Repeat.
This was you'll live most of your life like a king.

Er......no.....it's West Ham, whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

I'd be delighted with some mid table mediocrity

Re: is it ok to be positive?
I'm a simple creature and will be happy so long as the football we play is finally decent again, we have a go in ALL games and we actually try to win cup games.

Summers activity has definitely given excellent hope to all of this.

Re: is it ok to be positive?
We will beat Liverpool... obviously they have a good team but they are so hyped it's unbelievable. According to the media they have 'won' the transfer window because they blew 70m on a keeper.

Good time to play them I reckon... few 'stars' late back from WC. Hopefully the rumours of RM coming in with a big bid for Salah will prove true.

When it comes to West Ham, things are never as good as they look and alternatively never as bad as they look, Pat son.

Personally I think that all our new players will take a while to gel as a team.
